this is the most beautiful map I have ever seenthe quality of this map is amazing in that it is water proof and greatly detailed. Any one that likes the outdoors should ilnvest in such a treasure.
This is a facinating and educational map, excellent detailI have yet to see a map so well done. The fact that Mr. Schulte began drawing these maps by hand makes them even more fascinating. Great detail, enjoyable trails for the novice trail blazer and exciting trips for the hard core. Great job. Hopefully we will see more types of maps soon

Searching for El Dorado: A Journey Into the South American Rainforest on the Tail of the World's Largest Gold Rush

Fantastic accounts of his encountersFantastic (and very accurate) accounts of his encounters with the local folk and descriptions of the places he passed through on his journey. Made for a racey, entertaining and somewhat exotic read. Alot of first hand information for anyone thinking of travelling through Guyana indeed!
So funny, so smartI want Marc Herman to be my travel guide, whenever I sit back in my armchair -- or whenever I enter a new land. His easygoing style is seductive, but the energy of his insight into the culture is what makes him so appealing.
How can a country so full of gold have so many problems? Journey with Marc and find out; and have a blast along the way.

Favorite of the Pimpernel books!I loved this book. It's definitely my favorite of the Scralet Pimpernel books that I've read so far (about half of them). This book has our usual players, Blakeney, Marguerite, Chauvelin, Armand, and Tony. It's the story how Blakeney rescues--or does he???---the Dauphin from the clutches of the Tower prison. It's also an interesting character study for Armand and Blakeney. Armand is torn between love and honor, and his choice may suprise you. The repercussions of his choice were nearly deadly, and Blakeney pays a high price for them, as does Armand. It's a great read!

Beautiful descriptive details of land, danger and loveWow! This was a great vacation read. The reader really feels he/she is in the skin of this ranger in the El Dorado Forest in California.
True to this Author's writings, all places and their descriptions are factual. What a beautiful setting. This is a man's book in that it reflects all the gut feelings of a young man facing danger and death. This is a woman's book in that it explores the physical needs and seach for the ranger's true love.

Bravo to this new writer, as each book reflects his growth as a writer of great tales. I eagerly look forward to reading his next book.

the greatest story never retoldyou've seen the herzog movie now read the participants' own account! available at all good libraries (about the only place you'll find this book unfortunately). one of the most bizarre journeys ever undertaken during the golden age of exploitation. i get lost with words trying to describe this book. i guess you could describe it with all of the usual superlatives about 'testimony to the human spirit', 'indominable willpower of men' but this quest for god, glory and gold rapidly descends into an exploration of greed, power and survival. it's well worth reading the original text of the journey, it's endlessly fascinating as the journey moves through the andes with hope and then down the amazon with horror. march on.

The journals of El Dorado : being a descriptive bibliography on treasure and subjects pertaining thereto : a waybill to discovery and adventure

This book is a real treasure map to wealth - rare & valuableKarl von Mueller is the father of treasure hunting. A philosopher, adventurer, and writer. In this single book he has managed to catalog the sources he used countless times to find real treasure (e.g. not a coin or ring at the beach).
There is no other book like this. In capable hands, it is like a true treasure map to wealth and adventure. The book is a rare and valuable volume and thus it is very difficult to find. If you ever find a copy of this book don't pass the chance to buy it at any cost.
This book is by a true treasure hunter for true treasure hunters.

The loss of El Dorado: a history
Published in Unknown Binding by Deutsch ()
Average review score:

Powerful, disturbing and unforgettableThis is the historical counterpart to Naipaul's "A Way in the World", even though it was written more than two decades earlier - these books should ideally be read back-to-back. It provides a history of Trinidad from the original discovery by the Spaniards until the early nineteenth century. The canvas covered is vast - the early Spanish attempts at colonisation, Raleigh's poorly-organised and squalid search for an El Dorado on the Orinoco, the arrival of French refugees escaping from the slave-uprisings on Haiti and the establishment of British control, with a leading but hardly-creditable role being played by Sir Thomas Picton, later a hero of the Peninsula and Waterloo, and the use of the island as a springboard for fomenting revolution in Latin America. It is from beginning to end a ghastly story, dominated by greed, cowardice and cruelty. There is hardly a single character who emerges with credit and at times the reader is all but overwhelmed by the catalogue of mean-minded exploitation, atrocities and treachery. As always in his non-fiction writing, Naipaul uses a novelist's eye to bring colour and life to the narrative - adding not just to the immediacy but also to the horror of much of the material. This work goes beyond historical narrative however and presents simultaneously an extended meditation on the nature of power at its most basic level. It is a terrible and disturbing work - but a great one.

El Dorado RocksEl Dorado, the movie has wonderful graphics and wonderful characters. The book is no different. Colorful pictures and the storyline get you lost in Mexico. Good character interactions and good lines. The plot falls a bit short of what I expected but still a good book.

Secrets of El Dorado: Colombia
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (January, 1992)
Average review score:

A special book about the history of gold in Colombia"Secrets of El Dorado," includes a brilliant narrative by German Arciniegas along with a large collection of breathtaking photographs by Juan Mayr. In my opinion, this book must be included in anyone's library of books on Colombia. The quality of this large text is outstanding and the historical information of the importance of gold in Colombia is impeccably researched. Moreover, the introduction by President Virgilio Barco is a wonderful testimony to Colombia's special culture. This book is the next best thing to a ticket to Colombia's dynamic Gold Museam in Bogotá. Although expensive..."Secrets of El Dorado," is a great investment and much more than a mere coffee table ornament.
